Mal Kersting has an extensive background in the planning and implementation of road and bridge projects. As Regional Director for VicRoads Northern Victoria, he has responsibility for management of around one fifth of Victoria's rural arterial road network, comprising around 3,800 km of arterial roads (including freeways, highways) and 800
structures (bridges and major culverts). Mal has extensive experience in bridge and road design, business management and program development. More recently, he has been instrumental in leading teams for the planning of large scale and innovative projects, including the Echuca-Moama bridge, Ravenswood Interchange project and Kilmore-Wallan Bypass. Planning for a second crossing of the Murray River at Echuca-Moama dates back some 51 years. Finding a solution that met the community's needs and gaining the necessary approvals and funding has been an amazing journey.
