Maja Hoffmann is founder and president of the LUMA Foundation and Founder of LUMA Arles. For the past 30 years she has been producing ambitious projects that link art, human rights, education, and the environment. With the help of a core advisory group (Tom Eccles, Liam Gillick, Hans Ulrich Obrist, Philippe Parreno, and Beatrix Ruf), and architects
Frank Gehry and Annabelle Selldorf, and landscape architect Bas Smets, Hoffmann is renovating and constructing a site for the LUMA Foundation’s program in Arles, France, that she developed over the past 10 years. Hoffmann also supports initiatives such as the New Museum, in New York, the LUMA Westbau in Zurich, chairs the Swiss Institute NY, and is a trustee of the Tate in London, the Kunsthalle Zürich Foundation, the New Museum, and the Center for Curatorial Studies at Bard College, in New York. She is committed to the preservation of the environment and its natural resources through her work with the MAVA Foundation, and the Tour du Valat, and to protecting individual rights through Human Rights Watch.
