Graduated in Statistics and Demographic Sciences, with a focus on economics, at “La Sapienza” University of Rome, he obtained the Ph.D and a Master degree in Economics at the Faculty of Economics and Politics of Cambridge University.
Since 2001 he has been a tenured professor of Economics at Georgetown University. From 1999 to 2001 he was
tenured professor of Economics at Southampton University and from 1990 to 1999 he was associate professor of Economics at the Faculty of Economics and Politics of Cambridge University.
From 1986 to 1999 he was associate professor of Economics at Cambridge University, St. Johns College, from 1986 to 1988 researcher at Cambridge University, Department of Applied Economics. Since 2009 he is the Director of the Ph.D. program in Economics at Georgetown University. From 1988 to 1989 he was member of the “College Council” of St. John’s College, Cambridge.
He is the author of numerous scientific publications and took part in several international research projects. Over the period 2008-2010, he was independent director of Saipem S.p.A.
