Lord Lang, age 75, began his career as an insurance broker. He was then a Member of the British Parliament from 1979 to 1997, when he was appointed to the House of Lords. He served in the Cabinet as President of the Board of Trade and Secretary of State for Trade and Industry from 1995 to 1997 and as Secretary of State for Scotland from 1990 to
1995. Lord Lang is a Non-Executive Director of Charlemagne Capital Ltd. Lord Lang is a former Chairman of the Prime Minister's Advisory Committee on Business Appointments (UK), and he is currently Chairman of the House of Lords Select Committee on the Constitution. Former non-executive directorships include General Accident plc, CGU plc and The Automobile Association (UK). Lord Lang has been the independent chairman of the Board since 2011.
