Lawrence Jacobs joined Time Inc. in October 2013 as Executive Vice President and General Counsel. He is responsible for leading Time Inc.'s legal affairs and will oversee governance and compliance issues when Time Inc. becomes an independent company.
A seasoned public company general counsel, Jacobs served six years as News
Corporation's Senior Executive Vice President and Group General Counsel, where he handled all legal matters, including business development, securities, governance and compliance, supervising an international team of 300 lawyers. Jacobs began his 15-year tenure at News Corporation as Deputy General Counsel.
Most recently, he served as General Counsel of Empire State Development, New York State's chief economic development agency. In that role he had oversight of all legal matters, including various projects across New York, such as the State's involvement in the new Cornell Campus on Roosevelt Island and the repurposing of State-owned facilities.
He began his legal career as an associate at the New York firm Squadron, Ellenoff and was later named a partner.
Jacobs is a member of a number of professional and charitable organizations, including the New York State Bar Association and the Council on Foreign Relations. He is a Trustee of the New York Historical Society and is admitted to practice before the Supreme Court of the United States.
He graduated from Temple University, summa cum laude, and Brooklyn Law School, cum laude, where he was a member of the Law Review. He is currently an Adjunct Professor of Mass Media Law at Brooklyn Law School.
Jacobs lives in Manhattan with his wife and two daughters.
