Dr Laura Gilbert leads the information technology team at Rescon Technologies and is fluent in a variety of languages from php/javascript to R. She leads and has led the technical delivery of a number of research projects, recently including building algorithms to detect heart beats “on the fly”, detecting rhythm anomalies such as heart block
and atrial fibrillation, and analysing and visualising cell cycle data. She focuses on creating novel, informative and scientifically robust ways to analyse variable datasets, and is passionate about communicating the value and interpretation of statistics.
Laura holds a doctorate in Particle Physics and GRID computing from the University of Oxford, and Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Natural Sciences from the University of Cambridge. Laura has worked as an academic researcher in Particle Physics at Oxford, where she also held a number of lectureships. Laura previously worked for the UK Ministry of Defence as an analyst, and after that in three financial institutions as a quantitative analyst, developing predictive analytics tools at different frequencies.
As an athlete Laura has represented Great Britain six times in Savate Kickboxing, her highest international rankings being fourth in the world and third in Europe. She spent four years as Director of Technique for the Great Britain Savate Federation, and is now in her second two-year term as President.
