Winnipeg-based entrepreneur Kris Thorkelson has decades of business experience spanning from the retail pharmaceutical industry to real estate.
He maintains business pursuits as owner and founder of The Prescription Shop as well as owner of Thorwin Properties, which is a property management company specializing in finding suitable homes for
Winnipeg-based clients.
His determination for entrepreneurship was minted shortly after graduating from the University of Manitoba, when he and a partner purchased HW Pharmacy just three months after beginning employment for the company. Kris eventually bought-out his partner and sold HW Pharmacy to Safeway in 1995.
Inspired to still bring affordable prescriptions to patients, he opened the first Prescription Shop later that year and six years later founded Canada Drugs, a Canadian online pharmacy company that eventually employed nearly 200 team members and helped millions of patients around the world have access to brand name and generic prescriptions at competitive prices in its 17 years of operation.
As a thank you to the University of Manitoba for providing him an educational foundation for success, he donated $500,000 to the university’s pharmacy program. A university laboratory now bears his name.
A family man and philanthropist, he is an active supporter of a number of organizations, including the Agape Table and Canadian Lutheran World Relief.
