He completed his law degree at the Northern Illinois College of Law in 1998. From the start of his professional journey, he chose to focus on criminal defense and committed himself to trial work. Over the course of his career, Kent has tried more than 100 felony jury trials, including two notable murder cases. His level of trial involvement led to recognition from the Minnesota Public Defenders Office, which acknowledged him for having the highest number of jury trials in the 9th Judicial District for three consecutive years. These accomplishments reflect his long-standing dedication to courtroom advocacy and his willingness to take on complex cases requiring skill, clarity, and persistence.

At the same time, his professional identity has never been defined solely by trial counts or public recognition. His approach to legal work is grounded in thorough analysis, deliberate planning, and consistent advocacy for those he represents. These qualities have contributed to his well-earned standing within Minnesota’s legal community, where he is regarded as a practitioner who handles each case with care and thoughtful strategy.

Beyond his courtroom responsibilities, Strunk has demonstrated the ability to guide diverse projects and to take on roles that require strong organizational skills. His work history includes experiences that highlight adaptability and the capacity to contribute in different settings beyond traditional legal practice.

From March 2022 to July 2024, he worked with the National Opinion Research Center in Chicago, Illinois. During this time, he participated in national research efforts, including the Consumer Finance Survey and the Early Childcare and Education Survey. His responsibilities included conducting field interviews to support nonpartisan, objective data collection. These tasks required clear communication, professionalism, and the ability to gather accurate information from individuals in diverse communities.

Kent considers this research work an essential component of his overall career. It not only broadened his professional experience but also allowed him to support projects that inform national policy and social programs. Through this engagement, he strengthened his skills in data collection, community engagement, and project follow-through, all of which complement his abilities in the legal field.

He has participated in various United Way efforts, including serving for several years as a disbursement judge. He has also been a committed donor and supporter of the Boys and Girls Club. Their first child, Nicholas Robert, was born in 2001, followed by Spenser Frederick in 2003. The youngest children, twins named Hannah Kathleen and Vincent Keith, were born in 2006.

Nicholas was featured in a book titled Faces of Hope, profiling Minnesota newborns. He later graduated from the University of Minnesota and is currently pursuing graduate studies. Spenser earned a degree in Archaeology from the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse and plans to attend graduate school at the University of Minnesota. The twins are students at the University of Minnesota as well. Hannah is studying management, while Vincent is involved in theater and recently played the lead role in a school production.

As the children's primary caregiver, Kent has remained closely involved in their education, activities, and personal development. A long-standing family tradition includes bringing each child to at least one Minnesota Twins game every year since birth. This tradition has become a meaningful part of family life, representing their shared support for Minnesota athletics and their commitment to spending time together.

His personal life reflects the same steady principles found in his professional path. He values consistency, family connection, and community participation. Over the years, he has maintained traditions that keep him connected to his children and to Minnesota's broader culture and spirit. Through more than 25 years as an attorney and throughout his work outside the courtroom, he has demonstrated adaptability, leadership, and a willingness to support the people and organizations around him.
