Keith Brautigam is a seasoned IT and cybersecurity professional with extensive experience in identity and access management. Throughout his career, he has held various roles, from systems administration to leadership positions, including Chief Information Security Officer (CISO) and Interim Chief Information Officer (CIO) at a well-known
university. His focus has consistently been on enhancing security, improving IT infrastructure, and ensuring regulatory compliance across several organizations.
Keith was born in San Diego, California; when he was two years old, his family moved to the East Bay Area of San Francisco. His early exposure to technology came through friends who owned Amiga and Atari computers. Although initially drawn to video games, he soon became more interested in optimizing computer performance to improve his gaming experience. Later, his family moved to Iowa City, Iowa, during high school, where he pursued a degree in Communication and Media Studies at the University of Iowa. This also allowed him the opportunity to study abroad in Mérida, Venezuela.
Upon completing his degree, Keith faced challenges securing a job due to the downturn in the e-commerce market during the 1990s. He moved to the Research Triangle in North Carolina and worked as a supervisor at a Borders bookstore. While this job was not directly related to his field, it proved valuable in developing his customer service and leadership skills. After returning to Iowa City, he was offered a position at a medical research center, where he began his IT career as a Systems Administrator, focusing on compliance and data security, particularly HIPAA regulations.
Keith eventually transitioned into higher education, where he helped modernize internal processes and integrate new technologies. His experience with Agile SCRUM software development practices led to his recruitment by the University of Iowa’s central IT department. In 2014, he was recruited to a well-known university, where he advanced through various positions, ultimately becoming CISO and later Interim CIO. He led several significant projects during his tenure, including implementing the Shields Up cybersecurity program.
In 2023, he relocated to the Denver Metro Area and joined Hunter Douglas as the Global Cybersecurity Director of Identity and Access Management. In this role, he established a comprehensive IAM program, led the implementation of an identity governance system, and improved security across multiple regions. Keith Brautigam’s career continues to be characterized by his leadership and expertise in IT and cybersecurity, making a lasting impact wherever he works.
After completing his tenure at Hunter Douglas, Keith joined Radiology Partners in 2025, keeping a consistent focus on IAM strategy.
