I run Windigo Bay Group, a merchant bank. My career includes three stints as CEO of operating companies: an aerospace coatings manufacturer, and two VC-backed software startups (Plazmic & Kibboko). I was also an award-winning VC in a prior life. (Funny enough, I didn't enjoy either startup, even the one that exited nicely. I hated being
a VC, too. It was terribly dull.)
My advice to any startup is always the same: choose your investors with the same criteria you apply to co-founders. There are many lousy investors out there, with bad judgment and worse integrity. Be choosy!—it improves your odds of success. (I've had great investors…and some real horror stories too.)
