Karl Hou is the Director of Innovation Capital Division at Multimedia Development Corporation (MDeC). Karl has been leading MDeC’s efforts in strengthening the Innovation Ecosystem within MSC Malaysia and Digital Malaysia. Karl's responsibilities include Entrepreneurship, Research & Development, Commercialization and Funding. Karl has
contributed towards the growth of the industry by advocating and implementing various policies and initiatives including IP valuation to help entrepreneurs gain funding, new innovation, market share and international recognition. Karl is currently leading the national Big Data Analytics initiative (BDA) which aims to proliferate usage of BDA in all sectors.
Karl has 17 years of experience in the manufacturing and ICT industries, and has gained capability in industry development, policy development, business strategy and research and development. Karl holds a Bachelor of Engineering degree from the University of Birmingham (UK), an MBA with distinction and a Doctor of Business Administration degree from Charles Sturt University, Australia. Professionally, Karl is also a Chartered Professional Engineer and a Project Management Professional.
Karl also sits in Public Sector Committees. Karl currently serves as industry advisors panels in local universities including University of Malaya Research Advisory Committee and INTI University Industry Advisory Board.
Karl has also presented in international conferences. He has served as a Judge in Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year Malaysia Award since 2011.
