As an international technical authority on bioinformatics , he is an associate professor of bioinformatics at children hospital of Pennsylvania focusing on human genomics especially the application of high throughput DNA and RNA sequencing techniques to help researchers and clinicians interpret sequencing data , and he is also an editor of
multiple scientific magazines. So far, he has published more than 100 articles in various academic journals of high impact factors, covering complex diseases, rare monogenic diseases, tumors, stem cells, epigenetics and so on , and these articles have been cited more than 15,000 times. In particular, he is an expert on PacBio and Nanopore sequencing and he has participated or lead various projects that use these technologies, including the establishment of first Asian human genome assembly by PacBio sequencing, the repeat analysis of various types of spinal cerebral ataxia, the repeat analysis in Facioscapulohumeral muscular dystrophy, the discovery and quantification of various types of DNA modifications, the identification of disease causal structural variations in patients with rare diseases, and the construction of databases for structural variations by Nanopore sequencing.
