Professor Josef Manuel, widely known as “Ze Cobra,” is a world-class Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu practitioner and the head instructor of Chokelab Academy in Harrison, New Jersey. With more than 25 years of dedication to the art, he has established himself as a leading force in Hudson County’s grappling scene, known for his explosive style, technical
precision, and commitment to developing high-level athletes. Josef began his Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu journey in 2001 under Mario Marcio Lemos, building a strong technical foundation early in his career. Driven by a relentless pursuit of excellence, he later continued his training under 8-time World Champion Robson Moura, one of the sport’s most respected figures. On February 14, 2009, Josef made history by becoming Moura’s first American Black Belt—an achievement that reflects both his skill and dedication. Today, Professor Josef holds the rank of 4th-Degree Black Belt and leads Team Chokelab, where he continues to mentor competitors and students of all levels. Through his academy and organization, he has built a reputation for fostering discipline, resilience, and elite performance in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu.
