Jonathan Ive, also known as Jony Ive, is an industrial and product designer, best known for his pivotal role at Apple Inc. as Chief Design Officer. During his nearly 30-year tenure, he led the design of iconic products like the iMac, iPod, iPhone, iPad, MacBook, and Apple Watch. Ive's minimalist and integrated design philosophy helped define
Apple’s visual identity. He gained prominence after Steve Jobs returned in 1997, forming a powerful partnership that drove Apple's resurgence. In 2019, he left Apple to launch his design firm, LoveFrom, with collaborator Marc Newson. LoveFrom has worked with companies like Airbnb, Ferrari, and OpenAI. In 2024, Ive co-founded the hardware startup io, which was acquired by OpenAI in 2025. He continues to influence the tech industry through his visionary design leadership and ongoing work with LoveFrom.
The designer holds a BA and an honorary doctorate from the University of Newcastle. In 2003, he was named Designer of the Year by the Design Museum London and awarded the title Royal Designer for Industry by the Royal Society of Arts. In 2012, Ive was knighted as part of the New Year's honours list. Despite his success, Ive is quick to stress, “I don’t like being singled out for attention. Designing, engineering, and making these products requires large teams.”
