Jonathan Charrier is a Montreal-based entrepreneur and the founder of Charrier Global Imports, a thriving import and export company connecting Quebec consumers with specialty foods, artisanal goods, handcrafted clothing, and wellness products from Europe, Africa, and South America. At the heart of his work is a simple belief: culture is best
experienced through the things people create, and sharing those creations brings communities closer together.
Jonathan grew up in Montreal’s Rosemont neighborhood, immersed in the city’s rich blend of languages, traditions, and cuisines. Both of his parents worked in hospitality, instilling in him an early appreciation for service and the value of genuine human connection. Family visits to Montreal’s public markets became a weekend ritual, sparking his fascination with flavors, textiles, and craftsmanship from around the world.
After studying international business at a local college, Jonathan set out to experience the world firsthand. He spent two years traveling through France, Italy, Peru, Brazil, and Morocco, volunteering on vineyards, touring cooperatives, and meeting artisans in small workshops. During this time, he saw how many skilled producers struggled to access larger markets despite creating exceptional goods. These experiences planted the seed for Charrier Global Imports, as he built connections, sampled products, and listened to the stories of the people behind them.
In 2012, Jonathan returned to Montreal and rented a small warehouse in the Mile End area to launch Charrier Global Imports. He started with a curated selection of products discovered during his travels, including olive oils from Provence, handmade Peruvian textiles, and Moroccan spices from a women’s cooperative. Jonathan focused on building strong relationships with suppliers and ensuring consistent quality for retailers. Word of mouth fueled the company’s steady growth, eventually expanding the catalog to include chocolates, teas, crafted home goods, and natural wellness items.
Today, Charrier Global Imports serves boutique shops, restaurants, and online customers across North America. Jonathan remains deeply involved in sourcing, traveling regularly to meet producers, ensure fair compensation, and support sustainable practices. He believes that every imported item carries a story, and he honors those stories by treating his suppliers as trusted partners.
Outside of his business, Jonathan enjoys cooking, cycling along the Lachine Canal, and exploring Montreal’s restaurant scene with his partner. His career reflects a commitment to authenticity, respect, and the simple joy of sharing meaningful goods with the world.
