John Westerfield began his career in finance in the project finance division of Morgan Guaranty Trust Company of New York. After earning his undergraduate degree from Dartmouth College, Mr. Westerfield entered the company as an Assistant Treasurer in the early 1980s. John Westerfield left the company a few years later to pursue his Master of
Business Administration in General Management at Harvard Business School.
After earning his graduate degree, John Westerfield returned to New York and accepted a position with Morgan Stanley. Working his way up through a number of positions within the firm’s Investment Banking and Fixed Income divisions, he focused on activities related to commercial real estate investment and finance. He ultimately rose to a position as the global head of Morgan Stanley’s Commercial Mortgage Backed Securities (CMBS) Group and directed this group's efforts for the firm. Morgan Stanley's CMBS group maintained a strong reputation for sound underwriting under John Westerfield's leadership.
Upon retiring from Morgan Stanley with full career status in 2008, John Westerfield elected to pursue his interest in commercial real estate as a private investor. He maintains an office in Harrison, NY where he actively reviews local investment opportunities and invests in the public securities of major US real estate companies on his own behalf.
In his leisure hours, John Westerfield enjoys reading a wide selection of modern America’s most notable writers, including Ernest Hemingway and Cormac McCarthy. He enjoys classical music and is strong supporter of the arts in his local community. John Westerfield also enjoys outdoor athletics. He is an enthusiastic skier and ski racer and is an avid golfer.
