John is a professor in the Department of Health Policy and Management at the Columbia University Mailman School of Public Health. John is the former chairman and CEO of Aetna, Inc. and the former president and CEO, Mount Sinai-New York University Medical Center & Health System.
Before joining Mount Sinai, John was a Professor of Medicine and
the founding Director of the Division on Aging at the Harvard Medical School, as well as Chief of Gerontology at Boston’s Beth Israel Hospital.
John was elected a member of the Institute of Medicine of the National Academy of Sciences and a fellow of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences. He is currently a member of the board at the Rockefeller Foundation, the Marine Biological Laboratory in Woods Hole, Massachusetts and Hospital Corporation of America (HCA) in Nashville, Tennessee.
John earned his MD from the University of Rochester, School of Medicine and Dentistry and his BS from Canisius College in Buffalo, NY.
