Born and raised in Wisconsin (a bona-fide Cheesehead and Green Bay Packer shareholder), John graduated from the University of Arizona with a BA in Urban Planning. Following graduation and a short stint as a commercial broker, he served the City of Tucson, Arizona for over 20 years in a variety of real estate/development roles, often working
directly for the City Manager, the last three years as the Real Estate Administrator. During his career in Tucson, John was responsible for multiple urban corridor transportation/redevelopment projects, establishment of three regional transportation centers, and initiation of a downtown redevelopment tax-increment financing program. In 2006, John has named the Assistant Director of Real Estate for the City & County of San Francisco, and since January of 2011, has been the Director of Real Estate under Mayor Ed Lee. Real Estate provides facilities management services to over 4,000,000 square feet of public properties, and transaction leadership for purchases, sales and leases of City property, through a professional workforce of over 250 full-time staff and 60 part-time staff. LEED AP O+M credentialed, John is an active member of IFMA, Lambda Alpha International, BOMA, SPUR, ULI, and IRWA. He is also a founding Board member and Treasurer of the San Francisco Civic Center Community Benefits District, a founding Board member of the SF 2030 District (one of 15 chartered sustainability districts in North America), and serves on the City’s Green Building Task Force.
