John Sweetser is a mechanical engineering professional and Mission Architect with a career spanning aerospace, national security, and space vehicle design. He grew up in Loveland, Colorado, and is a former national and international snowboard cross competitor with the Steamboat Springs snowboard team.
He earned his associate’s degree from Colorado
Mountain College in Steamboat Springs and completed both his Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Mechanical Engineering at the University of Colorado Boulder in 2012. He began his career at Sandia National Laboratories, working in modeling and simulation for national security applications, before moving to Lockheed Martin to focus on space vehicle design. He later joined Sierra Space, where he advanced to Chief Engineer before transitioning to a startup role.
Outside of work, he enjoys snowboarding, programming, ice racing, and time with family and friends, and is actively involved in education and sustainability initiatives.
