John joined World Business Chicago (WBC) in January of 2014 as the Deputy Director of Mayor Emanuel’s Plan for Economic Growth and Jobs.
Prior to this role, John served as a senior associate in the Chicago office of McKinsey & Company, where he focused on strategy work across industries but with a primary focus on the manufacturing sector.
During his time at McKinsey, John was fortunate to be involved with two marquis WBC-related iniatives: the Digital Lab, a $320M investment in the region’s manufacturing sector, and the medtech innovation center, now called MATTER.
John joined the WBC staff to pursue his personal passion for both the City of Chicago and local government. John is a born and raised Chicagoan, having spent nearly his entire professional life within the city limits. The son of two lifetime City of Chicago employees, he knows first-hand what it is like to live and work for the city you love. Coming from the south side, he also understands the importance of baseball allegiance, which means you can find John passionately rooting for his White Sox when he is not diligently overseeing implementation of the Mayor’s economic growth plan.
Prior to transitioning into the business and public sectors, John was a practicing design engineer at Halvorson and Partners Structural Engineers. While at Halvorson, John helped to design world class high-rise structures both within the United States and abroad.
John received a BS in Civil Engineering from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and an MS in Engineering from the Illinois Institute of Technology. He also obtained an MBA from the University of Chicago Booth School of Business with concentrations in Strategic Management, Entrepreneurship, Finance and Economics.
