Middleton was born in Philadelphia, PA and attended Duke University and University of Pennsylvania before leaving in 2006 to pursue his career in film and television production.
John Powers Middleton began as an intern, assistant, and script supervisor for numerous companies before partnering with Roy Lee under the Vertigo Entertainment banner in
2010. In 2012, he launched "The Alfonso Show" on Univision Radio and by 2013, Middleton and Lee joined Joe Drake and Nathan Kahane to create Good Universe. The same year, Middleton launched his producing career with his work in the film "Oldboy" and shortly after, produced "The LEGO Movie."
Middleton also began his first television venture in 2013 as executive producer for the A&E series, "Bates Motel." In 2015, he was named consulting producer of the show.
In June 2014, John Powers Middleton and Casey Affleck developed The Affleck/Middleton Project, a production company.
Other projects that Middleton has executive produced include The Lego Batman Movie, My Big Fat Greek Wedding 2, The Disaster Artist and Manchester by the Sea, which received two Academy Awards and a Golden Globe, among other awards. As of late 2017, Middleton has been involved in the production of more than 25 projects in film, television and radio.
John Powers Middleton is involved with numerous philanthropic endeavors including participation with Project H.O.M.E., Follow the Carpenter, Operation Smile, and Best Buddies, among others. He is also the founder of the Middleton Foundation.
