Mr. Gottschalk became chairman and chief executive officer of the Omaha World-Herald Company in 1989. The Omaha World-Herald Company is comprised of some twenty operating companies (including over 50 newspapers and shoppers) and operates in 26 states with about 3,000 employees. He also served as the publisher of the Omaha World-Herald, a newspaper

with a daily circulation of approximately 250,000 and the only employee-owned metropolitan newspaper in the United States. He retired as chief executive officer in 2008.

Mr. Gottschalk joined the Omaha World-Herald as a general management executive in 1975, after having launched his newspaper career in 1965 at the Sidney (NE) Telegraph as an advertising salesman. During his first years at the Omaha World-Herald, he directed the newspaper’s conversion to computerized editing and advertising systems, with particular responsibility for design and installation. Just five years after joining the company, he was elected a vice president and a member of the company’s board of directors. He subsequently led the Advertising, Circulation, Production and General Administration divisions following which, in 1985, he became the president and launched the diversification and expansion of the company.

Mr. Gottschalk is also a director of the McCarthy Group.
