Mr. Johns joined Protective Life Corporation in 1993 as executive vice president and chief financial officer and was promoted to chairman, president and chief executive officer in 2003, and is currently the chairman and chief executive officer. Prior to joining Protective Life, he was with Sonat Inc., as vice president and general counsel. Mr.
Johns was a founding partner of the law firm Maynard Cooper & Gale and was an associate and partner of the law firm Cabaniss, Johnston, Gardner, Dumas & O'Neal. He holds a bachelor's degree from the University of Alabama, and a Master of Business Administration and a Juris Doctorate degree from Harvard University.
