John Chwat resides in Washington, DC and currently serves as the President of The Chwat Group. He has over 40+ years of professional lobbying experience on Capitol Hill representing a large base of clients. Mr. Chwat grew up with his thumb on the pulse of politics. After graduating from Long Island University, he continued his education at
Georgetown University obtaining his master’s degree in American Government. He finished his education with his Juris Doctor from American University’s Washington College of Law.
John jump-started his career in D.C. as a lobbyist in 1971. Over the last forty years, John Chwat has become one of the most well-respected lobbyists in Washington. His clients range from corporations, foreign organizations and professional associations at both the state and federal level. John specifically has served as the Chief of Staff to the late Rep. John Breckinridge (D-KY) and also was a Legislative Assistance to the late Rep. Seymour Halpern (R-NY).
He has taught 800-900 young people, from both the US and abroad, about lobbying and its various opportunities. He is one of the few lobbyists to give a steady stream of US Embassy-sponsored lectures in China over the last 20+ years and has given lectures to nearly every academic think tank, Chinese Ministry, as well as a number of Universities.
John Chwat has also lectured in London, UK and several other locations overseas including Cambodia, Vietnam, Hanoi, Mongolia, and Ulan Bator. These lobbying lectures continue to this day, but Mr. Chwat now spends considerably more time giving lectures to lobbyists on advanced lobbying issues. He has worked for many respected politicians from both parties which allows him to be one of the most well-rounded lobbyists in the industry. Due to his unique background and comprehensive understanding of the Congressional process, John Chwat has become a popular public speaker at trade association conventions, board of directors’ meetings, and state and national groups.
