Dr. Buse completed his MD and PhD at Duke University and Pre-Doctoral Research Fellowship at Joslin Diabetes Center and clinical training in Medicine and Endocrinology at the University of Chicago. He is currently Chief, Division of Endocrinology, Department of Medicine at the University of North Carolina School of Medicine, Chapel Hill, North Carolina.
Dr. Buse has authored more than 100 publications and is involved in numerous multi-center clinical trials, most prominently the NHLBI ACCORD Study for which he serves as Study Vice-Chair, and the NIDDK STOPP-T2D study. He serves on the Data Safety Monitoring Board and Steering Committee for NIH and international studies such as NAVIGATOR, ORIGIN, IRIS, FREEDOM and NASH-CRN.Dr. Buse is currently on the editorial board for Diabetes Technology & Therapeutics and International Journal of Diabetes & Metabolism.
