As CEO and Chairman of the Board, Randy May brings the Ecoark vision to a global clientele through his entrepreneurial energy, industry expertise, and charismatic leadership. May has built a strong, integrated portfolio of subsidiaries under the Ecoark brand, having initiated and facilitated four strategic acquisitions for the company since 2012.
With over 25 years of experience in retail, business development, and start-ups, May’s daily guidance enables the Ecoark team to fight waste, streamline operations, and address scarcity across a wide range of industries.
Proving his ability to read the market and deliver positive results, May has been successful on the supplier and retailer sides of the aisle. Prior to Ecoark, May spent over 15 years in divisional roles with Walmart, the world’s largest retailer. From 1998-2004, May served as Divisional Manager for half the United States for one of Walmart’s specialty divisions. There, he was responsible for all aspects of strategic planning, finance, and operations for more than 1,800 stores. He had complete P&L responsibility for more than 4 billion dollars of sales. Under May’s leadership, the business grew sales and market share in a highly competitive market.
Beginning in 2004, May founded and formed several start-up companies focused on solving the retail landscape’s sustainability issues without compromising the bottom line. May built these companies from the ground-up using his “triple bottom-line” philosophy of maintaining social, economic, and environmental responsibility. May’s understanding of domestic and international distribution channels, along with his entrepreneurial drive, led these start-ups to significant success and international recognition. In these start-ups, May renewed his tech-focused mission and laid the groundwork for Ecoark’s successful transition to a proactive, innovative holding company.
Through careful management and creative problem solving, May now leads the Ecoark team to deliver targeted, disruptive tech solutions through its subsidiaries and strategic partners.
