John Bloom John C. Bloom holds a B.S. degree in biology from the University of Pittsburgh and doctorates in veterinary medicine and experimental hematology from the University of Pennsylvania. He completed his postdoctoral training at the Jefferson Medical College in hematology/oncology and served on the Faculty of the University of
f Pennsylvania School of Veterinary Medicine as Chief, Clinical Laboratory Medicine, before joining Smith Kline & French Laboratories as Associate Director of Pathology.
Dr. Bloom has been active in the fields of toxicology, clinical risk assessment and translational biomarker research within the pharmaceutical industry, FDA and Institute of Medicine and has authored several manuscripts, chapters, reviews and texts on these topics. He served as Head, Clinical Pathology, in the Toxicology Division of Lilly Research Laboratories, where he subsequently moved to the Medical Division to establish the departments of Experimental Medicine and Clinical Diagnostic Services, which were responsible for translational biomarker research; and laboratory, ECG, imaging and specimen banking support for global clinical development, respectively.
Upon his retirement from Lilly in 2009 he established Bloom Consulting Services, LLC, which he serves as President, and was appointed Consultant, Office of the Center Director, FDA. Dr. Bloom holds adjunct academic appointments at the University of Pennsylvania and Purdue University.
