Jim Seebock has served as a Henderson, Nevada, City Councilman for the past three years. The city includes the historic Water District and is known as Nevada’s second-largest city. In this role, he works alongside the mayor and fellow council members to guide policy decisions and address issues affecting the community. Henderson is widely
recognized as one of the safest cities and one of the best places to live in the United States.
Before becoming a councilman, Jim built a long career in law enforcement. Over the years, he developed experience leading large organizations and handling responsibilities in high-pressure situations. His background includes strategic planning, operational management, and leadership focused on improving efficiency and long-term results. Throughout his career, he worked to build strong teams and support programs that improved public safety and organizational performance.
Seebock also gained extensive experience managing security operations and major public events. His work included conducting complex investigations, leading counterterrorism initiatives, and managing community-based programs. During his time in law enforcement, he became known for taking a direct and practical approach to solving operational and technical challenges. He focused on carefully evaluating systems, developing workable solutions, and improving performance through ongoing assessment and feedback.
In 2023, Councilman Jim Seebock won Henderson’s first-ever special election for the Ward 1 council seat after completing a career that lasted three decades with the Metropolitan Police Department. He was reelected in 2024 and received endorsements from the Henderson Chamber of Commerce Political Endorsement Committee and the Henderson Professional Fire Fighters.
As a councilman, Jim also represents Henderson in several important regional organizations. These include the Regional Transportation Commission, the Regional Flood Control agency, and the Southern Nevada Regional Housing Authority. Through these positions, he participates in decisions related to transportation, flood management, and housing programs throughout Southern Nevada.
Seebock began his career with the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department in 1993. During more than 30 years with the department, he served in many assignments and leadership roles. His positions included Patrol Officer, Narcotics Detective, K9 Handler, Patrol Sergeant, K9 Sergeant, Patrol Lieutenant, Counterterrorism Lieutenant, and Captain.
As a captain, Jim managed several major divisions within the department. One of his leadership assignments involved directing the Organizational Development Bureau. In this role, he oversaw training programs for nearly 5,000 department members. His responsibilities included supervision of the Police Academy, field training operations, advanced tactical instruction, and use-of-force review programs.
Seebock later became the Executive Director of the Southern Nevada Counterterrorism Center. In that role, he coordinated intelligence sharing and operational efforts among more than 20 local, state, and federal agencies. He also supervised grant programs and directed counterterrorism and crime analysis initiatives to improve regional safety and preparedness.
Another key assignment involved leading the SWAT Bureau. Jim supervised tactical responses during barricade and hostage situations while overseeing specialized teams such as crisis negotiators and homeland security units. He carried full operational responsibility during critical incidents and emergency events.
In 2020, Jim was promoted to Deputy Chief. During this period, he supervised several important divisions, including the Community Policing Division, the Tourist Safety Division, and the Detention Services Division. His responsibilities covered operations connected to the Las Vegas Strip, large public events, detention facilities, and broader public safety initiatives across the department.
In 2022, Seebock received another promotion, becoming Assistant Sheriff, the third-highest position within the department. In this role, he oversaw all uniformed officers serving within the agency.
Throughout major emergencies, the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department activates a Department Operations Center to organize and manage response efforts. These situations can include natural disasters, officer-related incidents, and other large-scale emergencies. He was selected several times to lead the operations center, including during the October 1, 2017, Las Vegas mass shooting response.
Throughout Jim's law enforcement career, he received several honors and recognitions. These awards included the Unit Medal of Valor, multiple Meritorious Service Medals, and the Community Service Award. He retired from law enforcement in July 2023.
While serving with the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department, Jim Seebock, Councilman, continued his education and professional development. He earned an Associate of Arts degree in Criminal Justice from the College of Southern Nevada. He later completed a Bachelor of Arts degree in Public Administration with a focus on Law Enforcement from Nevada State College. He also earned a Master of Arts in Security Studies from the Naval Postgraduate School in Monterey, California.
In addition to Seebock's academic achievements, he completed Nevada POST training at the Basic, Intermediate, Advanced, Management, and Executive levels. He also participated in the Henderson Chamber of Commerce Leadership Program.
Jim's professional training included attendance at the Anti-Defamation League’s Western States Leadership Seminar in Israel. He also completed post-blast investigator training at the FBI training facility, further strengthening his experience in public safety and emergency response operations.
Seebock moved to Henderson with his family in 1986. He grew up with one brother and one sister and attended Burkholder Junior High School before graduating from Basic High School. During high school, his father passed away. As a result, his mother worked two jobs to support the family, and he took on additional responsibilities at a young age, helping care for and support his sister.
Jim met his wife, Barbara, while in high school, and they married in 1996. Later, they became parents to boy and girl twins through embryo adoption. As a family, they have enjoyed spending time together through beach trips, visits to Disneyland, and hiking both within their community and while traveling. Their 19-year-old twins currently attend the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, and Northern Arizona University.
The family attends Central Christian Church. Over the last 30 years, Seebock has volunteered in several church ministries and programs, including the bookstore, welcome team, guest relations, and small group leadership. He is currently involved with the church’s legacy ministry.
Outside of church activities, Jim has volunteered as a youth coach for T-ball, soccer, baseball, and flag football programs. He has also served the community through volunteer work with the City of Henderson's Parks Board and Civil Service Board.
In addition, he has supported several charitable organizations and community programs through donations. These include Henderson Little League, Foothill High School Theater, Foothill High School Band, Salvation Army, Goodwill, and Central Christian Church. Through his professional service, volunteer efforts, and community involvement, Jim Seebock has remained connected to Henderson and its residents for many years.
