Dr. Jill Abram is a board-certified psychiatrist from Indiana with a profound 38-year career dedicated to child and adolescent psychiatry. Her mission throughout has been to restore mental health and well-being within communities by working closely with families and other health professionals, adhering to the highest standards of psychiatric care.
Her influential career began at the Homeless Mobile Team at Midtown Mental Center in Indianapolis, where she worked from 1988 to 1990. She continued her service at the Child Team for Mental Health in Anderson, Indiana, from 1990 to 1996, significantly impacting the lives of young patients and their families.
In 1996, she started a private practice in Fishers, Indiana, and simultaneously served as a psychiatrist at Pleasant Run Children's Home in Indianapolis. She later expanded her private practice to Anderson, Indiana, where she worked for almost seven years. During this time, she also held positions as an adolescent psychiatrist at Northeast Juvenile Correctional Facility and Pendleton Juvenile Correctional Facility, as well as as a psychiatric consulting physician at Fortville Christian Youth Home.
Her career also included roles in Indianapolis, where she worked as a psychiatrist at the Counseling Center at Christian Theological Seminary and Family Counseling Center and as a consulting adolescent psychiatrist at Richmond State Hospital. Additionally, she collaborated with the medical staff at community hospitals in Indianapolis.
Her expertise reached beyond Indiana as she served as a consultant at the Boys and Girls Home of Alaska and was part of the medical team at North Star Hospital in Anchorage. She also played a pivotal role in launching psychiatric telemedicine services through the Four County Counseling Center, serving Peru, Kokomo, and Logansport, Indiana.
Her consultancy extended to developing coordinated care systems with the Departments of Mental Health, Education, and Families and Children. She also consulted with the Marion County Juvenile Detention Center and participated in both the Conscience Development Research and Study Group and a Trauma and Dissociation study group.
Academically, she excelled early, graduating Summa Cum Laude from Hanover College with a B.A. in Chemistry, and minors in Biology and Psychology, earning recognition as the "Long Citation for Outstanding Senior Woman." Her medical training at Indiana University School of Medicine included a research year and concluded with the Academic Medicine Achievement Award. She completed her residencies and fellowship in Psychiatry at Indiana University School of Medicine, earning the Golden Apple Award for her contributions to medical education. Before retiring, she was licensed in both Indiana and Alaska and certified by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology. Dr. Jill Abram has been a steadfast member of the American Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry since June 1991.
