He was born on October 29, 1954 in Trzciana near Rzeszów.

In 1978, he graduated with honors from the Faculty of Materials Science and Ceramics of AGH in material engineering. He obtained the degree of doctor of technical sciences in 1986, the postdoctoral degree in 1995, and the title of professor of technical sciences in 2000.

Immediately after

graduation he was employed as an assistant at the Department of Materials Science and Ceramics of the Faculty of Materials Science and Ceramics AGH, then from 1986 as an assistant professor, from 1996 an associate professor and from 2005 a full professor.

Two-time Associate Dean of the Faculty of Didactics (1996-1999, 1999-2002), two-time Faculty Dean (2002-2005, 2012-2016) and head of the Department of Ceramics and Refractory Materials Technology WIMiC (2002-2012). Vice-Rector for Cooperation and Development (2005-2012) and Vice-Rector for Cooperation (2016-2020).

In the years 1989-1991 he was a research worker at the Faculty of Chemical Engineering at the State University of New York in Buffalo, USA. He participated in shorter internships abroad, among others in: Technical University Freiberg (Germany), University of Clausthal (Germany), RWTH (Germany), ENSCI Limoges (France), Osaka University (Japan), Alfred University (USA), Institute of Macrokinetics of the Russian Academy of Sciences (Russia).

He conducts scientific activity in the field of material engineering and chemical technology, in particular: technology for obtaining advanced and classic ceramic materials, special techniques for the synthesis of ceramic materials, testing the properties of ceramics and composites and their application. His special specialty is the method of obtaining ceramic materials called Self-Propagating High-Temperature Synthesis (SHS) consisting in using chemical reactions of combustion type for obtaining plastics.

He is a correspondent member of the Polish Academy of Sciences and a member of the following election: the Materials Science Committee of the Polish Academy of Sciences (vice-chairman), the Committee of Thermodynamics and Combustion of the Polish Academy of Sciences, and the Ceramic Committee of the Polish Academy of Sciences. Kraków, Building Materials Section of the Construction Committee of the Polish Academy of Sciences, a member of the Polish Ceramic Society. He is also a member of scientific councils: the Institute of Ceramics and Building Materials, the Institute of Metallurgy and Materials Science of the Polish Academy of Sciences and the Institute of Electronic Materials Technology.
