A pragmatist with an aesthete’s heart, Jerry O’Leary arrived in the New World from his native England in 1999 to join IDEO Chicago. A former industrial design intern who has co-lead the Cxd practice in the Chicago studio, Jerry then performed as a design director serving IDEO's Chicago, Boston and New York locations for 3 years.
Jerry is
an award-winning designer who will only admit under extreme duress that his work can be found in the permanent collections of the Cooper Hewitt National Design Museum, the Museum of Modern Art, New York, and the Art Institute of Chicago.
An experienced project leader who brings his combined background in industrial design and engineering to every product-development effort, Jerry has spearheaded successful projects in consumer electronics, medical devices, financial services, automobile design, and durable home goods for such clients as AT&T, LifePort, Gateway Computers, Motorola, Ford, 3M, Whirlpool, Citibank, Altec Lansing, and BUGlabs, among many others.
Before IDEO, Jerry worked at Hyphen Design in London where he founded a 3D visualization and animation service for clients ranging from other London design consultancies to FILA UK. He received his bachelor’s degree in design and engineering from Brunel University, London.
When Jerry’s not sitting in front of his DIY home render farm doing CAD ‘til the wee hours, he can be found entertaining coworkers with his killer American accent, penchant for boyish practical jokes, and steadfast refusal to eat any food that didn’t once have a mother.
