Dr. Jay Kistler has a long-standing interest in cloud-scale storage systems, beginning with his seminal work with distributed file systems at Carnegie Mellon in the 1980s and 90s.
Prior to Maginatics, Jay was VP of engineering at Yahoo!, where he led the search and advertising infrastructure programs. Before joining Yahoo!, Jay was VP of
engineering at Promptu (originally known as AgileTV), a startup that pioneered voice-controlled TV and other consumer experiences.
Earlier, Jay served as chief architect for platform technologies at Akamai, an architect on the staff of the CTO at FORE Systems, and a member of the technical staff at Digital Equipment Corporation's Systems Research Center.
Jay holds PhD and MS degrees in Computer Science from Carnegie Mellon University and a BS in Business Administration from the University of California, Berkeley. He has published numerous papers on distributed computing and mobile and consumer technologies, and he is a recipient of the ACM's distinguished dissertation award.
