Jared Shaw Ph.D is passionate about the development of novel instrumentation and methods for top-down proteomics and native mass spectrometry. He graduated from The University of Texas at Austin in 2013 with a Ph.D in Analytical chemistry under supervision from Prof. Jennifer Brodbelt. During his graduate studies, Jared’s efforts were broadly aimed

at the development of novel tandem mass spectrometry (MS/MS) methods for proteomics applications. Most notable was his development of 193 nm ultraviolet photodissociation (UVPD) for top-down proteomics. As a postdoctoral researcher at the Pacific Northwest National Laboratory (PNNL), Jared became an expert in Fourier transform mass spectrometry (FTMS) while leading development of a 21 tesla Fourier transform ion cyclotron resonance mass spectrometer (FTICR-MS). In 2016, he was promoted to a senior research scientist at PNNL and led efforts to develop and apply novel FTMS instrumentation and methods to top-down proteomics and native mass spectrometry. Through industrial collaborators, Jared was introduced to and began collaborating with the team at e-MSion in 2017. This fruitful collaboration led to advances in de novo antibody structure characterization and novel approaches to the characterization of native protein complexes. Jared joined e-MSion as Chief Scientific Officer in February of 2020.
