Janice Ryan is a Fishery Advisor for WWF-Canada with over 13 years’ experience in various sectors of the Newfoundland and Labrador fishing industry. A native of the island, Janice has worked with fish harvesters to build their capacity to implement sustainable fishing practices and adopt a fisheries conservation ethic. Today, she continues that
work with WWF to help the organization effect change on a larger scale.
Janice’s work has taken her more than 200 nautical miles offshore, working on fishing vessels to observe snow crab, shrimp and groundfish commercial fishery operations. She’s also had an amazing experience working as an observer on a king crab boat in the Bering Sea.Her passion for fisheries conservation at the grassroots level is tied to her deep and personal connection to the ocean—as a natural wonder, but, more profoundly, as the source of a culture and livelihood that has surrounded her since childhood.
