Born and raised in Heidelberg, Germany, James’s formative years instilled in him a spirit of discipline and adaptability that would guide his path. His professional journey began in Washington, D.C., during the 1990s at the Center for Counterterrorism Studies, where he first contributed to critical national initiatives. He went on to serve as a U.S. Naval Officer, where his exceptional leadership and determination stood out. During Officer Candidate School and Basic Underwater Demolition/SEAL (BUD/S) training, he demonstrated remarkable perseverance—leading his boat crew through the grueling Hellweek without a single dropout. Although he was not ultimately selected for the Special Warfare Community, his performance earned him the opportunity to pursue Naval Aviation pilot training, a testament to his capability and resolve. His deployments in the Mediterranean included participation in Operations Allied Force and Enduring Freedom, earning him recognition and commendations for his service and dedication.

James’s career reflects an enduring passion for learning and mastery. He holds multiple professional licenses and certifications across aviation and maritime disciplines, including FAA Pilot Licenses, a DOT Merchant Mariner Master Captain’s License (up to 25 tons), and PADI Master Diver credentials. His expertise extends to emergency response and safety, with certifications as a FLETC Certified Backcountry Law Enforcement Ranger, USPA Skydiver, National Registry EMT, and FEMA Search and Rescue Manager.

In the aftermath of the 9/11 attacks, James exemplified his unwavering commitment to service by taking unpaid leave to drive overnight to Ground Zero, joining recovery efforts in hazardous conditions. His ethos of “showing up and helping out” has taken him across 34 countries, with additional travel and residence in over 50 nations worldwide.
