James Upton began his career in accounting in 1996 with his aunt Margaret Hayes. James has had his NC Accountant privilege license since 2001. James has served as President of Upton Accounting Inc. since March 2004. James became an Enrolled Agent in 2006, after passing the rigorous IRS special enrollment exam over a 2 day period, and can represent
taxpayers before all levels of the Internal Revenue Service on issues ranging from audits and examinations to appeals and Offers in Compromise.
James is a graduate of Montgomery Community College with an AAS in Accounting (’01) and Gardner-Webb University with both a BS (’04) and Master of Accountancy (’07).
James is a member of the National Society of Accountants, NC Society of Accountants (NCSA). James has supported the NC Society of Accountants as an officer, board member and local chapter officer, over several terms. James has taught accounting classes for Montgomery Community College and is a speaker to community groups on issues of tax and accounting.
