James “Tony” Rivera was born and raised in southern Arizona, where his love of all things mechanical began. In high school, he was heavily involved in the school’s auto shop and drafting programs. This combination inspired James to enter mechanical engineering after graduating. James received his BS in Mechanical Engineering at Arizona State
University. Before working with Local Motors, James expanded his knowledge in mechanical engineering through an internship at OPM Customs, Baja SAE, and other personal projects. While working at OPM Customs, James was involved in performing custom modifications and restoration work on Camaros, Mustangs, and multiple older-model Ferraris. James is also heavily involved in Baja SAE, and was Chief Engineer for the 08-09 season, and Team Captain for the 09-10 season. He began working at Local Motors as an Engineering Intern in summer 2010, and now works full-time as a production/R&D engineer. While not working, James enjoys anything outdoors, especially if he is driving his Toyota rock crawler/daily driver.
