James Muthuri is a finance and operations expert with nearly 15 years in the business world. Throughout his career, James has focused primarily on cutting costs in operations, as well as supply chain management. In his current role as Procurement Specialist for Republic Services, James has worked to lower costs through several projects, while also
developing initiatives for national procurement. At Republic Services, James has reduced spending by 20%, realized $6M+ in savings, and surpassed his goals by 170%. He has also overseen negotiations with 70+ vendors and managed 20 area business units.
James Muthuri has previously worked with some of the biggest retail names out there: Walmart and The Home Depot. At Walmart, he began as Health & Wellness Business Unit Operations Finance Manager, where he developed store operations budgets in 3.6K+ stores. He further executed a 3-year plan that ultimately increased profitability by 17%. Continuing his time at Walmart, James moved into the role of Reverse Logistics Finance Manager. Here, he increased productivity by 10% by implementing productivity metrics. He also minimizes $100M in chargebacks by altering operational standards.
Following his time at Walmart, James Muthuri joined The Home Depot as their Division Finance Manager in 2012. Here, he managed $9B in annual sales within two regions, boosted revenue by 3.5%, and provided training for 30+ field associates on financial metrics. Still working with The Home Depot, James later took on the U.S. Stores Operational Sustainability Manager role. Due to his outstanding management skills, James was promoted to considerable levels, taking on more responsibility and management duties as a result. In this role, he reworked field trainers' schedules, as well as optimized the training materials, cutting travel expenses by 40%. Additionally, he worked with 25 U.S. stores to implement sustainable training, improving customer scores by 8% and increasing sales by 15-20%.
Although James Muthuri has plentiful experience in working with large-scale businesses, he is not only passionate about working for well-known brands. James has a desire to help businesses of all sizes, from startups to worldwide powerhouses. He also has a deep respect for businesses in developing nations in Africa. Several times, he has consulted for them to find ways that they can grow their operations and better their finances.
