James Freddo has more than 15 years of drug development experience and has practiced as a gynecologic oncologist in academic and private practice settings.
He was the Chief Medical Officer and Senior Vice President, Drug Development at Anadys Pharmaceuticals (2006-2012), where he also served as a member of the Board of Directors (2011).
Prior
to joining Anadys, Dr. Freddo was Vice President, Clinical Site Head and Development Site Head for Pfizer Global Research and Development, La Jolla.
Previously at Pfizer, he was Executive Director and leader of Oncology Clinical Development in La Jolla. While at Pfizer, Dr. Freddo built and led the team responsible for the registration of Sutent® (sunitinib malate), a drug approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration in January 2006 for treating advanced kidney cancer and gastrointestinal stromal tumors. Dr. Freddo also designed the early clinical development strategy for Axitinib which was recently approved by the FDA for the treatment of renal cell cancer.
Prior to Pfizer, Dr. Freddo held a variety of senior management positions at Wyeth-Ayerst Research from 1996 to 2002, in the Oncology, Infectious Diseases and Transplantation Immunology therapeutic areas.
He has also served as a member of the Board of Directors for InfuSystems, Inc. (2008-2011).
Dr. Freddo received a M.D. degree from the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill, completed his residency training at UCSD and returned to Chapel Hill for his fellowship training in gynecologic oncology.
