James Kinsella is a high-tech entrepreneur and investor who has built successful network and cloud services companies in the US and throughout the European Union during the last three decades. He was the Chairman and former CEO of one of the few pan-European technology success stories, Interoute Communications, LTD. Over the last 15 years,
Interoute has grown from a start-up to a recognized leader in telecoms network infrastructure and cloud services, and was recently acquired by GTT, for €1.9 billion (US $2.3 billion). The Company is the leading European cloud services platform across the EU and beyond, from London to Istanbul and Moscow, and from Stockholm to North Africa.
Early in his tech career, Kinsella was involved in some of the world's first major web-based enterprises, in particular as an executive at Microsoft where he was president of the Microsoft/NBC joint venture, MSNBC.com. He has also led teams who successfully turned around enterprises in very difficult markets.
Before launching his first company, Kinsella worked as a journalist, and he is the author of the award-winning book, Covering the Plague, informed in part by reporting in Central East Africa on the outbreak of AIDS there in the early 1980s.
Kinsella currently serves as chairman of D4 Investments, which helps innovative cloud and AI companies expand from the US to the EU and from the EU to the US.
