Across his professional life, James Burchenal has taken on roles that have allowed him to work with people, numbers, property, and business operations. Based in Cincinnati, he has developed experience in finance, sales, education, real estate, and construction. His career has not focused on a single industry, but it has remained connected by common
skills such as communication, planning, client service, negotiation, and follow-through.
James earned his Bachelor of Science in Economics from Hampden-Sydney College. His studies included intermediate macroeconomic and microeconomic theory, helping him understand markets, financial systems, and business decisions. While attending college, he was also a member of the varsity lacrosse team and participated in Sigma Chi. These activities gave him experience with teamwork, discipline, responsibility, and managing commitments outside the classroom.
James's early exposure to finance came through an investment internship at UBS Financial Services. In that role, he worked with a top institutional consulting team and helped review client accounts ranging from $1 million to over $25 million. He assisted with account reviews and recommendations, gaining valuable experience in portfolio strategy, risk assessment, and financial decision-making. This role helped him understand the importance of careful review and sound judgment when working with client matters.
James later worked as an Outside Sales Manager at Cincinnati Bell. His responsibilities included developing new business, finding untapped markets, and building customer relationships. Through this work, he helped secure approximately 50 new clients each month. The position strengthened his ability to explain services clearly, identify customer needs, and maintain consistent outreach.
Another important part of James's background came from teaching English in Prague, the Czech Republic. While living abroad, he taught more than 500 students weekly across multiple schools. He prepared lesson plans, worked with educators, and communicated with parents. This experience required organization, patience, and the ability to adjust his teaching style for different students and learning environments.
After returning to the United States, James joined Kreller Group as a professional sales representative and account manager. His work included customer acquisition, territory development, and advising companies on credit and risk management practices. He also handled commercial credit reports and investigations while working to meet sales goals. This role brought together sales, analysis, and client support.
In 2015, James became a licensed realtor with Comey and Shepherd. He assisted buyers and sellers, reviewed properties, coordinated showings, and negotiated contracts. His real estate work included properties ranging from $50,000 to $1.2 million. He also used marketing materials, newsletters, and direct communication to maintain client relationships and support business growth.
In 2022, James became co-owner of Monture Construction LLC in Mariemont, Ohio. His work includes project oversight, client communication, and the management of company operations. His earlier experience in real estate, finance, sales, and negotiation continues to support his role in construction leadership.
James has also spent time in service and hands-on work. He served as a counselor with United Way’s Stepping Stones program, working with students with disabilities. Earlier, he worked as a ranch hand at Two Creek Ranch in Montana, where he helped manage livestock and land. Outside of work, he enjoys hockey, rock climbing, camping, fly fishing, bird hunting, traveling, and weight training.
James Burchenal’s background shows a steady willingness to learn from each role and apply those lessons to the next stage of his career. His work reflects practical experience, clear communication, and a continued focus on handling responsibilities with care.
