Jack McCauley is an engineer, hardware designer, inventor, video game developer, and philanthropist.
Jack is best known for designing the guitars and drums for the Guitar Hero video game series, and as a co-founder and chief engineer at Oculus VR. Jack holds numerous U.S. patents for inventions in software, audio effects, virtual reality, motion
control, computer peripherals, and video game hardware and controllers
Jack has worked with companies like Oculus, Atari, RedOctane, Electronic Arts, Activision, and Microsoft. He is a member of the MEMS Industry Group and an expert in the video game peripheral engineering space.
Jack co-founded Oculus VR with Palmer Luckey, Brendan Iribe, Nate Mitchell, Michael Antonov, and Andrew Scott Reisse. Jack produced the DK1 and DK2 products for Oculus and managed the engineering design and production until the company was acquired by Facebook for $2 billion.
Previously, Jack was the key developer on Activision's GuitarHero franchise. Jack designed the guitars and drums for GuitarHero , including the XBOX, PS2, PS3 and Nintendo Wii. Jack has numerous awards and patents in the video game space, including a RED-DOT award for product design for bone-conducting headphones.
In 1992, Jack invented the scrolling wheel mouse. Jack is also one of the originators of the USB specification. He served on the HID USB device working group whilst developing the USB. He also has publications for artificial intelligence algorithms and is a researcher in this field.
