Ioav Cabantchik is Professor of Biochemistry at the Institute of Life Sciences at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, Israel, where he holds the Adelina and Massimo della Pergola Chair in Life Sciences. His is a graduate of the MD- PhD programme at the University of Rochester School of Medicine, NY, USA. After joining the Hebrew University of

In the last 10 years, he has focused on novel approaches for tracing the status of labile iron in biological samples, its involvement in iron overload of organs (as seen in thalassaemia, haemochromatosis and metabolic disorders), and the promotion of oxidative stress and its susceptibility to iron chelators in preclinical and clinical use. Prof. Cabantchik founded Aferrix based on the diagnostic and monitoring technologies he developed.
