Ian has been in the automotive industry for 27 years starting as an apprentice for Rover Group Limited at the Gaydon Engineering Centre in 1990. Studying part time, Ian completed an ONC and HNC before graduating with an Honours degree in Materials Science from Coventry University in 2000.
Working in several areas of automotive material science,
including interior/exterior trim, adhesives and process materials, Ian worked on vehicle programmes such as Freelander, MGF and Rover 75 along with the earlier versions of iconic Jaguar Land Rover models (JLR) such as the Range Rover and Discovery 2.
With the break - up of the Rover Group Ian had a period of time at TRW and Cape Engineering which saw him involved in both the Aerospace and Defence industry as well as remaining close to his automotive industry roots.
Returning to Jaguar Land Rover in 2011, Ian is now Lead Materials Engineer for all JLR Cockpit‘s. This involves defining and evolving the material strategy and process for introduction of materials,
reacting to ever evolving customer and performance requirements during an exciting period of expansion for the company. Ian is also leading JLRs work on lightweighting of plastics and remains a subject matter expert for adhesives and adhesion in interior and exterior trim applications.
