Ian Pearson was appointed as an independent non-executive director of Thames Water Utilities in September 2014. Ian works in strategy and business development for major organisations. In addition to being an iNED at Thames Water he is a member of the Advisory Board of the accountants PwC, Chairman of Octopus VCT2 plc and of CrowdBnk, and a Senior
Adviser at GK Strategy and Avanti Communications.
Elected to Parliament in a by-election in December 1994, until standing down before the 2010 general election, Ian had various roles in Government. He was Economic Secretary to the Treasury 2008-10. Before that he had important roles as Science and Innovation Minister, Minister for Climate Change and the Environment, Minister for Trade, and as a Minister in Northern Ireland.
Born and bred in the Black Country, Ian studied PPE at Balliol College, Oxford before gaining a Masters and Doctorate at the University of Warwick. In his spare time, Ian’s interests include rugby, literature, art and architecture, as well as following the fluctuating fortunes of West Bromwich Albion.
