Henry Cortes is the Founder and CEO of Core Development Group, a national solar contracting company for commercial, government, and utility-scale solar photovoltaic (PV) installations. Cortes has amassed nearly 30 years of general construction experience, such as project finance, construction science, business development, managing of teams, and
operational processes.
Cortes studied Industrial Electric at the Passaic County Technical Institute from 1988 – 1992, where upon graduating he began his career in the electrical construction trade. After several years of experience across a range of industries, Cortes owned and operated a large electrical contracting firm focused on commercial installations, as well as a general contracting firm focused on real estate development and investments throughout New Jersey.
Cortes joined BayWa r.e. Solar Projects, a global leader in the renewable energy market, as Vice President of Project Management. The position gave him the opportunity to oversee and manage the daily operations of project management, engineering, procurement, estimation, operations and maintenance of company assets. Cortes also worked with government agencies and supported the development team with greenfield projects in the United States and South America.
In 2012, Cortes launched Core Development Group to help companies and communities with sustainability through solar development. The company has developers, project managers, construction managers, engineering partners, and a QA/QC team with a combined experience of designing and developing 2.6 GW. Core Development Group currently has an estimated 3.5 GW in construction and development in the U.S., Canada, and the United Kingdom.
Cortes holds a B.S. from the William Paterson University and an M.B.A. from Ramapo College. He holds a Master Electrical license in the State of NJ and is certified by The National American Board of Certified Energy Practitioners (NABCEP), certified by the New York State Energy Research and Development Authority (NYSERDA), certified by the Project Management Institute (PMP), and is also the Secretary of Energy for the Polynesian Kingdom of Atooi, an Indigenous American Native organization.
