An award-winning administrator with a distinguished career in public education, Dr. Greg Poole leverages more than three decades of experience to oversee student success as well as financial, operational, and personnel matters as superintendent of Barbers Hill Independent School District (ISD). Since earning the position in 2006, he has led the
district to become one of the fastest-growing in the Houston area, while maintaining the tax rate and improving teacher salaries. Dr. Greg Poole is the second-longest serving school leader in Barbers Hill ISD history.
Dr. Poole has additional leadership experience as an executive principal, principal, and athletics director. He has coached sports teams, including the Caney Creek High School varsity football team, to state titles and played a major role in improving state rankings for both Caney Creek and Moorhead Junior High. In Dr. Poole's final year as principal at Moorhead, the school ranked first among all Texas junior high schools in percentage of improvement in Texas Assessment of Academic Skills (TAAS) scores.
Dr. Greg Poole began his career in education as a math teacher, working in jobs at Conroe High School and Belville High School. A proponent of the power of teamwork and shared sacrifice through sports, he is the second-longest serving board member of the University Interscholastic League (UIL) Legislative Council. He was elected to the council in 2007 and appointed chair in 2012. Poole also serves on the boards of the Texas High School Coaches Association Foundation and Texas Interscholastic League Foundation.
A former Superintendent of the Year nominee, Dr. Poole has earned several awards, including H.E.B. Principal of the Year Finalist, West Chambers County Man of the Year, and the Vietnam Veterans of America's Hero of Patriotism Award. He graduated summa cum laude from Texas A&M University with a doctorate in educational leadership and completed his master's and bachelor's degrees at Sam Houston State University.
