Mr. Young is a Managing Partner of Spruce Capital Partners as well as Investment Director at Malaysian Life Sciences Capital Fund (MLSCF). Previously, he held the position of Managing Director at Burrill & Co., a diversified global financial services firm focused on the life sciences industry. Mr. Young departed Burrill & Co. in 2013 to
cofound Spruce Capital Partners, which currently serves as the co-manager of MLSCF and MLS Capital Fund II.
Mr. Young has over fifteen years of experience in the biotechnology industry. His focus areas of investment cover agriculture, renewable energy and chemicals, as well as biological tools and processes which promote sustainability. He has played a senior or lead role in a number of Burrill & Co. and MLSCF venture capital financings and has been involved in the early formation of several portfolio companies.
Since its 2006 inception, Mr. Young has held the position of Investment Director at MLSCF, a life sciences venture fund specializing in early stage investments in agriculture, industrial and healthcare biotechnology. In 2011 he joined MLSCF’s Board of Directors and Investment Committee. Mr. Young has been deeply involved in shaping MLSCF’s biogreentech investment strategy.
Prior to joining Burrill & Co., Mr. Young worked as a molecular biologist focused on protein expression at an early-stage biotech located in San Diego. Mr. Young received his BS in Biochemistry and Cell Biology from the University of California, San Diego and an MS in Biotechnology from Northwestern University.
