Giampiero Catone is an Italian chartered accountant, editor, journalist, and politician. Born in Naples in 1956 and raised in Abruzzo, he graduated in Political Science from the “Gabriele D’Annunzio” University of Chieti. Giampiero Catone started his career while still engaged in his university studies, working as a bank employee and as a financial

consultant for companies in the food and financial sector. He later enrolled in the Register of Chartered Accountants and Auditors. At the beginning of 1999 he joined the Board of Directors of the “San Pio V” University of Rome as a Member. He was also a Professor at the Faculty of Political Sciences. In the 2000s Giampiero Catone served as Contract Manager at the European Parliament and, from 2001 to 2004, he held the same role at the Italian Presidency of the Council of Ministers. In 2002 he became a journalist and enrolled in the Italian Order of Journalists. In the same year he took on the role of Political-editorial Director for the “La Discussione” newspaper. Subsequently, besides his professional life, his political commitment began and, after joining the United Christian Democrats party, in 2001 he was appointed Head of Secretariat for the EU Policy Minister Rocco Buttiglione. Following many other institutional roles, in 2006 and again in 2008 he was elected to the Chamber of Deputies of the Italian Parliament. Furthermore, from 2010 to 2011, he served as Undersecretary to the Ministry for the Environment. His career later returned to teaching and, specifically, as a Professor of “International Economics” at the Link Campus University of Catania (2016-2017). In recent years Giampiero Catone has focused mainly on his professional roles at the “La Discussione” newspaper, of which he has been Editor-in-Chief between 2019 and 2021. As of today, he is a Member of “La Discussione” editorial board, and Editor-in-Chief of the “Comunichiamo” monthly journal. In the past, he was invested as “Knight Commander of the Order of St. Gregory the Great” and “Knight of the Order of the Holy Sepulcher”. In 1992 he was also awarded the “Capri-San Michele Prize” for his commitment in the social sphere.
