Fred Aarons, PhD is an expert in financial regulation and economic development law. He has been recognized by Chambers and Partners as a Leading Lawyer in its Latin America surveys, as well as by The International Financial Law Review in its IFLR 1000 surveys.
Academics
Dr. Aarons has served as a professor in Financial Regulation at the
Monetary Graduate Studies – Economics School of the Universidad Central de Venezuela; in Contracts courses at the Policital Science and Law Faculty at the School of Law, Universidad Central de Venezuela; and as a professor in the Banking Contracts chair at the postgraduate studies of the same university. He has also been professor of Financial Transactions and Banking Contracts in the Corporate Law programs and the Executives Development programs at the Instituto de Estudios Superiores de Administración (IESA), as well as an instructor in academic programs coordinated by the American University and Georgetown University in Washington, D.C.
Author & Public Speaker
Dr. Aarons is a frequent public speaker in academic and professional settings on topics related to banking, finance and regulatory matters affecting economic development. He is the editor of the book entitled “Tendencies in Financial Arbitration in Venezuela” sponsored by the Venezuelan Chapter of the Club Español del Arbitraje, the Venezuelan Arbitration Association and the Academy of Political and Social Sciencies of Venezuela, published in November 2015. Dr. Aarons has also authored several articles in national and international publications.
Education
Dr. Aarons was awarded a Ph.D. by the Universidad Central de Venezuela in November 2016. He received an M.A. in Development Banking with a concentration in Finance from The American University in Washington, D.C. in 1992; an LL.M. in International Legal Studies with a concentration in International Trade & Banking from The Washington College of Law at The American University in Washington, D.C. in 1991 and an LL.B. from the Universidad Católica Andrés Bello in Caracas, Venezuela in 1988. He studied Business Management at Yale in 2009 and International Tax at Robert Kennedy College in Zurich, Switzerland in 2006. Dr. Aarons is the recipient of scholarships from the Organization of American States (OAS) and The Latin America Scholarship Program of American Universities (LASPAU).
Dr. Aarons is fluent in Spanish, English and French, and has Portuguese language skills.
